OK, a little SEO housekeeping first before getting into my Backlink Booster thoughts. I haven't been writing much here or on WF lately as I've been tied up on a HUGE new backlinking program that I will be (hopefully) launching by the end of December. Without giving away too much just yet, it's the most ambitious project I've ever tackled in IM and overcomes a couple of the biggest problems associated with backlinking. However, I will be updating the SEO Experiment on WF tonight with screen pics etc. And catching up on email correspondence! Firstly, courtesy of SEO Guy Michael Chapman, here is: [1] a brilliant list of WordPress plugins and uses specifically for Internet Marketing (e.g. turn your WP blog into an e-shop, membership site etc); and, [2] a very good list of Firefox plugins also particularly valuable for IM. Thank you Michael. As I have been so busy on the new backlinking program, my thoughts on Sean Donohoe's Backlink Booster below are largely theoretical - but hopefully still of value to you. I will be rolling this out to my own backlinking process over the next few weeks.
So what exactly is Backlink Booster? Backlink Booster is a script-based method for turning a backlink (usually to your Money Site) into an item in an RSS feed that is then routed via Twitterfeed and Ping.fm (and possibly Onlywire.com) to a bunch of Web 2.0 properties. The reason for this is to add power to each of your backlinks by 'backlinking your backlinks'. Depending on the power of your Web 2.0 Backlink Booster network, you might almost reach the point of creating mini Pumper Sites for your Money Site. In theory, using Backlink Booster also makes it more likely that your original backlink is indexed by Google (which is very different to getting crawled which is pretty straightforward). In short, Sean's two-click solution (after everything is set up which can be time consuming if not outsourced) aims to make the most value of each of your backlinks rather than leaving them under-utilised. Now, to be blunt, I've never been much of a fan of RSS and I've blown a fair bit of money (OK, let's call it 'research') on expensive RSS systems in the past that I won't name because I don't want to be sued. When I did get any impact from RSS, it was from the RSS site page and not from my Money Site feeding the RSS. And an RSS page or entry on FeedAgg.com is not exactly sales-friendly nor will it last long on Page 1 of Google. On its own, RSS, in my humble opinion, is not the optimum way to use Backlink Booster. A far better way is to use your RSS feed in conjunction with a free service like FeedMyInbox.com which can turn your RSS Feed into emails (create a new, separate GMail account just for this process).
Why turn your Backlink Booster RSS feed into emails? So that you can autoblog-post across a bunch of different Web 2.0 blogging platforms where your Backlink Booster RSS feed becomes a series of posts across the Web. The trick here is diversity of Backlink Booster 'backlink backlinks' on the Web and not just 500 blogspot or Wordpress sites as these will all share the same IP address. You can of course use one of your own hosted (but neglected) WP blogs in conjunction with Steven Fullman's WPUnique plugin for a bit more link power too. Basically, I am suggesting that a blog-post-backlink (to your original backlink from Angela/PJ/my Report) has more power than just an RSS-fed link into a Web 2.0 property. Google, as we know, is attracted to fresh blog posts. I'm far from convinced that it likes a new addition to an existing RSS feed anywhere near as much. This belief is based on my (over)use of Google Alerts. In brief, apart from creating accounts at Onlywire.com that BB will feed via the normal Twitterfeed-Ping.fm setup, I believe it will have much greater impact if a LOT of different blogging sites are (eventually) added to your BB 2-click solution. Once all the accounts are created and configured properly, that second click on BB will automatically create new blog posts across all of this (eventually pretty big) 'secondary layer' of Web 2.0 blogging platforms. The point we eventually want to reach is to have that BB second-click ("Let's Rock"), AUTOMATICALLY post to a couple of hundred sites within seconds/minutes. Yes, this will take time to build up but success in IM is about building up core strategic business assets like (but not limited to): - competency/mastery of the most time-effective use of SEO Tools (for your particular IM business model/s); - a list of subscribers who trust and value your materials (partly why I don't do ANY affiliate promotions with my SEO Notes Newsletter subscribers like you!); - a proven converting PPC ad in your niche/s; - a proven converting Sales Page (and/or Copywriter who can deliver them for you at a reasonable price); - strong relationships with other heavyweights in your niche/s; - a group of trusted outsourcers who can get almost all of your daily IM business tasks completed professionally at a reasonable price; and, - a proven strategy for ranking well in Google (i.e. backlinking and 'backlink boosting'). How can you NOT succeed if you have these assets in place? Anyway, back to our main subject! Now one valid criticism of this approach is the fact that all of these Web 2.0 blogs across the Web will be identical and therefore ignored through Duplicate Content problems. Assuming that's true, we can add different feeds from other 'niche' sites into our blogs too in unique-ish configurations. For example, let's say we have a cellulite Money Site (and, yes I do!), we could create this kind of BB 'Secondary Network' with our "Backlink Booster RSS>Email>Autoblogpost" method: Web 2.0 Blog #1: BB RSS Feed + Random Cellulite/Womens Health Site 1 Feed (both autoblog-posted through FeedMyInbox.com) Web 2.0 Blog #2: BB RSS Feed + Random Cellulite/Womens Health Site 2 Feed (both autoblog-posted through FeedMyInbox.com) + Random Cellulite/Womens Health Site 3 Feed etc etc. We are trying to 'mash up' the feeds semi-uniquely so that our Web 2.0 blogs look more or less relevant (though relevancy is massively over-rated in my view). Mixing feeds together in Yahoo Pipes is of course also another option there. This can be a problem if you operate in several/many niches (as I do) and this may require the purchase of different 'keys' from Sean to create different RSS feeds (by niche, for example). So here are SOME Web 2.0 blogging platforms to explore for our "Backlink Booster RSS>Email>Autoblogpost" method:
Martin Hansen also kindly shared this site with me, http://www.go2web20.net/, and from that group, Typepad (PR8), Posterous (PR7) and MyBlogLog (PR7), among many others, look good for our BB approach:
This is obviously kind of a rush job explanation of this use of Backlink Booster (there are probably some other interesting flavours too) but hopefully it has given you some ideas. Don't be overwhelmed by trying to create all of the Web 2.0 blogs for BB in a week (unless you outsource it!), just keep adding them and adding them over time in and - in theory - that should add a lot of SEO punch to your backlinks. One final thought on this approach: build in the BB clicks for each new 'original backlink' created by your outsourcer into the job for them e.g. they need to go to the new backlink site, create the account, verify the email, place the backlink/s, photo, bio information and THEN click through Backlink Booster on your site with that new backlink URL to finish the process. Their quote up front should reflect that small extra bit of work via BB. I would love to hear some other cool ways that BB is being used so please email them to me if you are comfortable with them being shared here. As usual, you can email me at terrykyle2 (at) yahoo.com if you have further comments or questions but there is quite a backlog there! Talk to you soon and keep on backlinking!
